OLD FLASH SITE FROM 2010

I’ve been digging through old files while rebuilding my website, and it has reminded me how fragile digital work can be. Over the years, I’ve lost so much data: images, project files, documentation, and pieces of work that I wish I had archived more carefully.

I recently found an old version of my website from around 2010. It’s pretty funny to look back at now because the whole thing was built in Flash. At the time, that made sense. Flash was a common way to build interactive, animated websites, and I spent a lot of time putting it together. Then the iPhone came along, Apple refused to support Flash, and the whole platform quickly became obsolete.

So there is definitely a lesson in there: back up your work, keep archives, and don’t assume that today’s digital formats will be easy to open tomorrow. Digital information can feel permanent, but it is often incredibly fragile. Files disappear, formats die, hard drives fail, links break, and entire platforms can vanish.
